Salers: A Must-See!
A true architectural gem classified among “The Most Beautiful Villages of France.” The village of Salers is a journey through time. With its turreted houses, belfry, and ramparts, Salers transports you from the Middle Ages to the Renaissance.
Having faced invasions during the Hundred Years’ War, the “Sagraniers” (locals) fortified the town to protect against brigands. Once a merchant hub and then a city of nobles, its past grandeur is reflected in its perfectly preserved architecture dating from the 14th to the 18th centuries. Every alleyway hides historic homes in pristine condition.

Awarded the Grand Site de France label, the majestic pyramidal silhouette of Puy Mary (1,787 m) offers an exceptional panorama. Easily accessible by road, you can climb one of the remnants of Europe’s largest volcano!
From the Pas de Peyrol mountain pass, it is a 30-minute walk (195m elevation gain) to reach the orientation table at the summit. A maintained path with steps leads you to an extraordinary panoramic view of the stratovolcano, its radiating glacial valleys, and its rocky peaks. The Maison du Site (Visitor Center) is available to provide advice on hiking trails and visits throughout the Cantal Massif.
Located in the heart of Auvergne, Aurillac is a city rich in history, preserved nature, and a passion for rugby.
